A. I think that Orwell was trying to send a message about how he feels about capital punishment. That it isn’t right and there are better things other then hangings to deal with criminals. Though those ways might not be as fast as a hanging they are probably more effective in the long run.
D. he describes the scene around the actual hanging and the gallows. How everyone is silent and unsure what to do especially after the dog went and jumped onto the prisoner and changed the mood with its happiness not understanding what was about to happen to the poor man.
