A. The story takes place in 1934 which is 5 years after the Stock Market crashed and led the United States into the Great Depression. He was one of the few people that had a job at the time because a lot of people didn't because no one had money to buy or sell.
B. All the stories in this essay had a moral, and his story's moral was Don't Get Comfortable as Best learned trying to arrest the miner. He got his stomach slit opened by a knife and nearly died because he wasn't use to working the miner camps and how dangerous they could be if he wasn't careful.
G. "Don't Get Comfortable" that is saying that we can't let our guard down and get to relaxed or something will happen. Like when they were on the train track and the train came. if his dad hadn't been paying attention, the son might have been hit or fell off while holding onto the side of the tracks. And later when Charley Best gets his stomach cut open in the bar by the miner. He was use to kicking helpless hobos off the top of trains because they didn't pay to ride the train. So he wasn't use to the camps where there was no law and order, just survival.
H. The author had such faith in his dad that he wasn't scared at all as they hung sixty feet in the air with one arm on a train track side. Charley Best was a fearless man, he was super tough. that was why he arrested the criminal miners. He didn't get comfortable so he didn't let his guard down until the end. And the authors got comfortable with his dad holding them even while his dad probably wasn't.
K. Charley Best is a man who walked on top of the trains and caught hobos who hitched rides without paying. The first time he caught you he let you go where you were going, the second time he threw you off the train. Later on he shot a homeless boy who he thought was someone else stealing coal from the rail yard, so he was assigned jurisdiction over several mining camps in northwestern Pennsylvania and was sent to arrest a miner who was stealing. when he went to the bar to arrest him. Best let his guard down and the miner slit his stomach with a knife, Best fell to the ground holding his organs in and shot the miner in the mouth, killing him. The author inserted all the other little stories into the plot to help you look away from the bad things that he did like shooting the homeless boy, and to show other bits of his family history.

G: The narrator gets all of his money stolen from his trunk while he went away to talk to the college principal about when school starts. He earns a new friend when one of the porters that were staying in the same room as he was, when the man lends him money to pay for school until he can get a job and earn money for himself.
K: Because the narrator thought that porter was his friend but mostly he was the one that stole the money, because he was a student himself. and the narrator also wanted to have more depth put into the story.

A: Kingston's family is ashamed by both her committing suicide and because she became pregnant by a man that wasn't her husband. the distinction isn't important for the family, they are just ashamed of what she had done.

A: Angelou's intent for the story is more then just bad matter children and racism. But about a woman who used her religion to withstand the insults and other pains that were inflicted to her though racism and bratty children.
E: Angelou uses descriptions like their greasy uncolored hair hung down, uncombed, with a grim finality. the dirt of the girls cotton dresses continued on their legs, feet, arms, and faces.
